Ian's Thirteenth Week

Ian’s little life gets more and more interesting every day! Here’s the goings-on of Ian’s 13th week of life!

On our way to take one of our cars to the shop to get worked on, we passed a Farmers Market in North Richland Hills. I noticed it right away because of all the beautiful flowers outside! Flowers are now one of my favorite things! It would be a first for us to stop at a Farmers Market. We had a great time! We left with a beautiful hanging plant for our back porch as well as a red Hibiscus plant for our front yard. And later that day after dropping Beau off to pick our car back up from the shop, he came home with a surprise for me, a second beautiful hanging plant to match the one we bought that morning!!! I love my husband!!!!!!!

On Friday, we took Ian to Dallas to show him off to some former coworkers of both mine and Beau’s, and we tried to take him to see a friend of Beau’s from his court reporting school, but she had already left for the day. Ian got to meet Melinda, Jewel, and Gilbert. I spent over four years working for MillerParker and Beau about two years, and we built some great relationships with these folks. It was so much fun getting to see them and introducing them to Ian!!!

Stephen and Whitney Williams and our little family got together Friday night to hang out! We loaded Ian up and went and ate at Pei Wei. The Williams went with us to Target afterwards to get a few things we needed for Ian, and while we were there, “Aunt Whitney” bought Ian his first teething rings!!! We had a great time hanging out with the Williams!

The little buddies, Ian and Austin, got to play Saturday night. The movie The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian had just come out, and the Spiveys tried to organize getting some friends together to go and see it. We had a childcare issue, so here’s how it worked. The guys would go see the movie at 5:30. The girls would eat fajitas at the Spiveys’ house while the guys were gone. When the guys got back from the movie, they would eat and take care of the kids while the girls went and saw the movie at 9:00. And so that’s what we did! It ended up only us and the Spiveys were able to go. We have never done this before, but it seemed to work relatively well!!! And the movie was excellent!!!

Sunday was a big day for Ian! It was his first time to go to the nursery!!! You would think I would have been incredibly sad and holding back the tears, but I wasn’t. I was more excited than anything! It helped that he didn’t cry when we dropped him off as well as getting to know the ladies that keep the babies and their extensive experience in our church’s nursery. One lady had been keeping the babies for over 11 years!!! So they know what they’re doing, which put my anxious feelings to rest. It happened to be Austin Spivey’s first day in the nursery, too! And Abby Dosku was in there as well. So he had some friends to play with! Beau handed Ian off to LeAnn. And I couldn’t resist taking a few pictures of his first day in the nursery!!!

The funny thing about this being Ian’s first Sunday in the nursery is our Sunday School class had Department of Defense that day. What Department of Defense is is each week one department in our church helps with childcare starting with the nursery to five-year-olds. We happened to be placed in Ian’s class for DOD!!!!! Isn’t that hilarious?!?! So we dropped him off and went to Sunday School, and then we helped out in Ian’s class when we would normally go to the worship service. We had 10 babies!!! Thank goodness we were not alone! We had help from a lady that’s a regular worker and another lady. The great thing about us being in Ian’s class was I got to take lots and lots of pictures!!! Now his first time in the nursery is well-documented!!! We had so much fun!!! Jason Spivey deemed Beau “The Baby Whisperer” because Beau would take one fussy baby after another and have them quieted down and peaceful in a matter of minutes.

Sunday night we got invited by the Muckleroys to come over for a cookout. Emily had a special recipe for bacon cheeseburgers that she made, and Chris grilled them on his grill. They were delicious!!! We ate outside at their table on their back porch and enjoyed the nice evening visiting!!!

Emily and I went over to Whitney’s house to keep her company Monday evening. Stephen had to be gone all week for a flight test out in New Mexico for work, and so Whitney would be staying by herself in their new home. We had an all girls’ night with the exception of one little guy, Ian! We went and ate at Chili’s and then went back to Whit’s house and watched part of The Bachelorette. It was so much fun hanging out with the girls!!!

My favorite thing of this week happened on Tuesday!!! I had put Ian on his play mat while I went and watered my flowers. When I went to check on him, Ian had his thumb in his mouth just sucking away!!!!! We have us a little thumbsucker!!!!! I was so excited!!! He practiced getting it in his mouth all day long and was getting pretty good at finding it. And, of course, every time he stuck his thumb in his mouth, I had to take a picture!!!! I decided we would, for the first time, try not swaddling Ian in his SwaddleMe blanket at night and see how it went now that he had his thumb to pacify him. It went really well!!! And by the second night, Ian was sleeping in his crib!!!!! He loves his thumb, and even puts himself to sleep with it!!!

Ian turned three months old this week!!! It’s hard to go back and remember what life was like before he was here! I sure love my little boy!!!

Your technique needs a lot of work. If you hook the nose with your pointer finger, then you'll never want to let go. Trust me...
