Last Saturday Mac broke both bones in his right arm. He was playing in his baby brother's crib doing what he loves...throwing all the stuffed animals in the crib, climbing over the rail to get inside, throwing all the animals out, climbing out...only this time, he fell out catching himself with his right arm. We've never experienced broken bones in our little family, so we weren't sure what to look for. Mac was pretty easily consoled, which led us to believe maybe he was okay. After his nap, he was being very cautious with his arm and didn't like putting any weight or pressure on it. That's when we decided to take him to Cook Children's Urgent Care in Hurst. He was certainly a trooper! There was not much crying coming from our little boy. I actually was surprised when Beau texted me after getting x-rays saying it was broken. After spending a few hours in urgent care, Mac was sent home wearing a splint. And we gave our little boy some extra TLC!
Settling in for Tom & Jerry before bed...
While we were getting the boys ready for bed, Ian looked at me and said, "Mom...," pointing to his arm, "...broken!" He wanted a cast like Mackers! So I constructed a cast for Ian out of Daddy's socks and a sling out of an old winter scarf of mine! Pretty soon his other arm was broken and both of his legs! It was pretty funny! He was as serious as he could be when he discovered his first broken arm! Silly boy!
Mackers deserved a little sip of Mommy's coke after all he'd been through!
Mac got a green cast put on the following Tuesday. The swelling hadn't gone completely down so they split the cast on both sides to allow for some flexibility and then taped it closed.
Spending some time with his favorite "Big Dog."
The sling is not Mac's favorite thing, but he's done pretty well with it. He's been able to pretty much use his arm as if nothing ever happened! I'm glad he hasn't had much pain.
Today we went back to get another layer put on his cast since the swelling had gone down. His doctor said his arm should heal nicely, and as his bones grow, we won't even be able to tell it was ever broken!
He'll wear his green cast for another four weeks.
Our little boy sure is tough!!!
