Galveston - Kemah Boardwalk, Part One

One of the highlights of our Galveston trip was our outing to Kemah Boardwalk the first night where we ate at Aquarium, a fabulous seafood restaurant. In the center of the restaurant, there was a floor-to-ceiling aquarium filled with all kinds of marvelous sea life which made for the perfect ambiance.

After dinner, we went underneath the restaurant to the Stingray Touch Tank. Fascinating is the best word I can think of to describe the experience we had there! We watched in awe as lots and lots of stingrays swam around the tank. Just so neat to see so many up close! And talk about fascinating! We paid a little extra to feed sardines to the stringrays. They would come up to the side of the tank, flatten themselves out raising up just enough for you to slide the sardines into their mouths, which are located on the underside of their bodies 3 to 5 inches from the tip of their bodies. And they knew what you were there for! Scared me half to death when the first one came up right in front of me! I might have jumped and screamed like a little school girl. It was just so awesome watching the whole thing! Another neat thing, several times a stingray would spontaneously begin swimming alongside the wall of the tank with its body halfway out of the water. All in all, such a neat experience for everyone!

Located in a different part of the Stingray Touch Tank were some more freestanding aquariums and some real-life looking gorillas and an elephant. The gorillas and elephant would make real-life movements and real-life gorilla and elephant sounds. This freaked Ian out! The look of pure terror on his little face was just too funny! He was not a big fan, but we got a kick out of it!

We had lots more fun at Kemah Boardwalk I'd like to share with you, but I'll save it for another post!
